“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.”
― John Lubbock
I ended the week with a less than welcome stomach bug. Who knows where it came from but it landed with me and I was pretty down for the count.
Matty, however, was up for the challenge. He drew me baths, rubbed my shoulders, and bought me things like ice, chicken bone broth, and the most incredible all-natural relief made of chamomile, essential oils, and pure magic.
It's funny how when you're sick, no matter what sort of sickness it is, rest is always prescribed. I think there is great value in rest in our day-to-day lives, so we've tried to incorporate peaceful nooks into our home to encourage just that. I fell in love with this apartment as soon as I saw the window seat - suddenly I was one step closer to becoming someone with the adventurous spirit and kind, old soul of Wendy Darling.
It took a few months before I moved the boxes and odds and ends from the window and began to build a place for rest, dreaming, and imagining. Matty said from the start that this was my corner and encouraged me to make it as dreamy as possible.
Perhaps resting here in sickness wasn't the ideal way to break it in, but the ease and comfort as soon as I fell into those pillows was exactly what I'd been searching for.
In a word: delightful.
