Hot drinks are one of the many things that I live for. When the weather cools down, there is nothing better than starting the day with a perfect cup of coffee. And then warming up in the afternoon with a second cup of coffee - or tea, if health and/or fanciness are priority. By evening, it's either a peppermint tea or hot cocoa nightcap. The perfect stomach closer.
In the fall, it's all about hot buttered rum (on the special occasions) or apple cider. My grandmother makes the most incredible cider with butter and spices, and the other night I had the worst craving. I decided to experiment with a few ingredients on hand and Y'ALL. This is the jackpot.
My hot drink arsenal is now complete. This cider is the perfect mix of creamy (even buttery), sweet, spicy, and salty. Drink up, me hearties.
CREAMY APPLE CIDER
Yield 1 serving
1 cup unfiltered apple juice
1/4 tsp cinnamon
pinch cayenne pepper
quick shake of sea salt
2 tsp coconut milk or cream
Heat cider with cinnamon and cayenne pepper. Remove from heat and stir in coconut milk (if using cream, dollop some on top and watch it melt into divinity). Top with shake of salt.
PS - Okay, so cold drinks are pretty great, too.
