"Every strike brings me closer to a home run." -Babe Ruth
If you don't know, my husband is a new American resident. He's been in the States for just over 3 years and in that time has never attended an "American sporting match," as he calls it with his dreamy Aussie accent.
Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays to spend with my family, but we were scattered from Austin to Denver to Branson to Washington DC this year, leaving my dad in Fort Worth to host the annual pool party. Our friends invited us to go see our local minor leaguers, the Round Rock Express, so Matty and I jumped at the chance.
We ate hot dogs, waved our flags, and he played along as we sang, "Take Me Out the the Ballgame," and started the wave. Afterwards there was a spectacular fireworks show, complete with an all-American soundtrack.
Matty and I passed the camera back and forth and the way he edited the photos makes it seem like we were at a game in the 1930's. I think that's why I love baseball so much in the first place. The nostalgia is rich and the classic feel of the game makes me feel transported back in time...no matter how many Shrek clips they play on the big screen between innings.
Hope everyone had a happy 4th!
