Have a Heart (with These DIY Valentines!)
Valentine's Day is a week away and if there's one thing I think we can all agree on, it's that the world could always use a little more love. Sure, Hallmark is making a killing from teddy bears and mylar balloons, but I happen to think that anything that encourages love is bound to end up on the better side of things. I also happen to not be a teddy bear and mylar balloon type of gal but wow, do I love making homemade Valentines and eating chocolate. (Matty and I have been through 2 rounds of chocolate covered strawberries and counting this year.) I'm also down for unique date ideas, so I really enjoyed reading this list earlier this week if you need some inspiration!
Now, about hearts. Hearts are unruly, complicated things. But that little symbol represents so much: hope, unity, playfulness, joy. I had a friend in college who made pins out of felt and hot glue and she gave me two: a heart for Valentine's Day and a 4-leaf clover for St. Patrick's Day. I'm not sure what it was that made me remember after so much time, but I held onto them for years. Such simple little things that made me so happy!
So, I thought perhaps I could pay it forward this year and share a heart with you.

How to Make a Heart Pin
The hearts are as simple as they look. All you need is red felt, a glue gun, and backing pins (I used these). I tested a pattern but honestly the easiest thing is just to fold the felt and half and cut out a heart about an inch wide, just like you would a paper heart. Glue the pin on and call it the cutest thing you've ever made in 2 minutes.
